The internship program is three months long, from mid-January to mid-April, and requires 120 hours.* For half the internship (60 hours), interns get hands-on experience with a patrol district’s community policing team to expose them to and ignite greater interest in the policing profession. Examples of work assignments with a patrol district’s community policing team include (but are not limited to):

- Assist in community events like “Coffee With A Cop”
- Participate in neighborhood security watches and citizen patrols
- Aid in educational programs like active shooter and senior safety presentations
- Interact with life-size video scenarios in our simulator
- Experience the same physical fitness assessment that police recruits must pass
- Observe police patrol activities on a ride-along
