ENTRY LEVEL POLICE EXAMINATION
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be notified by HPD via email to self-schedule for an entrance exam. HPD will administer multiple exams each month. Applicants who arrive late, or do not have the required items will be denied entry.
The entrance exam is a timed, multiple choice exam that covers observation and memory, written communication, reading/understanding, and reasoning/analytical ability. HPD will notify applicants of their entrance exam results via email.
Applicants who pass the entrance exam will be ranked by their score and be placed on a "live" eligibility list. Your score will be valid for one (1) year. Once HPD is ready to begin processing for a recruit class (usually 3 times per year), the highest ranking applicants will be notified via email to do a self-assessment to determine their likelihood in successfully passing our background investigation.
PHYSICAL READINESS ASSESSMENT
The highest ranking applicants on the eligibility list will be scheduled to take a Physical Readiness Assessment (PRA) . The PRA is a pass/fail test. All events must be passed in order to continue in our selection process.

300-Meter Run - 82.8 seconds

Applicants will have 10 days to complete their online PHS. It is recommended that applicants gather information on previous employers, landlords and references before attending orientation.
Applicants will be scheduled to meet with an investigator for a clarification interview. During this interview, the responses to the PHS will be reviewed in detail. Additionally, traffic abstract, criminal history, and education history will be discussed. Background checks will be conducted throughout the entire selection process.
