METROPOLITAN POLICE RECRUIT

METROPOLITAN POLICE RECRUIT (MPR)

While attending the Police Academy, Field Training & Evaluation Program and 4th Watch (first year).
​Base salary effective July 1, 2024:
  • $76,008 per year ($83,912 including SOCD*)
  • $6,335 per month ($6,992 including SCOD*)
  • $36.54 per hour ($40.34 including SOCD*)

ADDITIONAL PAY MAY INCLUDE

  • Standards of Conduct Differential (SOCD)
  • Night differential
  • Overtime: 1.5 times the base hourly rate
  • Meal allowance for overtime work
  • Subsidized vehicle allowance
  • Hazard pay
    • (ex. solo bike: Additional 25% of base pay)
  • Special duty (range of $50 - $85 per hour)

VACATION / SICK LEAVE / HOLIDAYS

  • 21 days of paid vacation per year (accrued monthly at 14 hours each month)
  • 21 days of paid sick leave per year (accrued monthly at 14 hours each month)
  • Leave days are based on eight (8) hour shifts. Depending on assignments, regular shifts may be nine (9), ten (10), thirteen (13) & thirteen and a half (13.5) hours.
  • 13 paid holidays per year (14 in election year)

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

Withdrawal of Federal/State taxes from any contributions to this plan is deferred until retirement.

EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT

Higher education reimbursement up to $600 per session/$9,600 per fiscal year of accredited undergraduate college courses, pending availability of funds. Other monetary limits apply for graduate and doctorate courses.  (Only courses related to the purposes of law enforcement shall be considered for reimbursement).

METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFICER (MPO)

After successfully completing the training and probationary period of the MPR position.
Base starting salary effective July 1, 2024:
  • $79,008 per year  ($86,912 including SOCD*)
  • $6,584 per month ($7,242 including SOCD*)
  • $37.98 per hour ($41.78 including SOCD*)
After accruing credible years of service, MPOs receive automatic step increases as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Max base salary for MPO can range up to $118,680 ($126,584 including SOCD).​

RETIREMENT

  • Normal Retirement
    • ​Age 60 w/10 years of service
  • Early Retirement (Age Penalty*)
    • Age 55 w/25 years of service
  • Multiplier of 2.25%
  • Vesting at 10 years of service
* If you have a minimum of 25 years of credited service in this category you may retire without an age penalty, subject to certain provisions and limitations.

MEDICAL/DENTAL COVERAGE

City-subsidized medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision plans with option to pay premiums from pre-tax earnings.
