WHAT IS THE CURRICULUM?
While at Ke Kula Maka'i (The Police Academy), recruits will undergo rigorous training in:
- Laws, Policies and Procedures
- Control and Arrest Tactics
- Firearms
- Emergency Vehicle Operation
- Physical Fitness
- and many more areas...
HOW LONG IS THE ACADEMY?The academy is approximately 6 months. The hours are "mostly" 0630-1515 hours, Monday - Friday, excluding holidays. |
IS IT A LIVE-IN ACADEMY?No, our academy is not live-in facility. Metropolitan Police Recruits report to the Police Academy every working day and leave at the end of the day. |
FIELD TRAINING & EVALUATION PROGRAM
After graduating from Ke Kula Maka'i, recruits will be paired with veteran officers across O'ahu in the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP). After successfully completing FTEP, recruits will be assigned to 4th Watch for foot patrol in Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu as well as other special assignments.
