LATERAL OFFICER SALARY + BENEFITS
SALARYLateral officers will be credited up to nine (9) years of qualifying service from their current employer for salary and step movements only**. Base salary for the 3 different entry steps are as follows, effective July 1, 2024:

ACCELERATED LATERAL ACADEMY & FIELD TRAINING + EVALUATION PROGRAMLateral officers will be required to successfully complete a 15-week accelerated lateral academy.
Officers are paid full-time city employees while attending the academy, however, the academy is not a live-in facility so officers will need to coordinate housing prior to first day of employment.
After passing the accelerated lateral academy, officers will be required to complete a 9-week Field Training and Evaluation Program. Newly hired lateral officers will service a 1-year initial probationary period. WORK SCHEDULE/PATROL SHIFTSDuring the accelerated lateral academy, officers will mostly work a 5-8 schedule, Monday - Friday, from 0630-1515 hours.
During the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP), officers will work a 4-10 schedule with rotating days off. Upon successful completion of FTEP, patrol officers work a 3-13 schedule (two 13.5 hour shifts and one 13-hour shift) with 4 days off. Days off rotate based on the assigned schedule. Patrol consists of 2 different shifts/watches:

RETIREMENTOnly years of service worked with the City & County of Honolulu apply towards retirement**:
* If you have a minimum of 25 years of credited service in this category you may retire without an age penalty, subject to certain provisions and limitations. **Does not apply to active members of the Hawaii State Employee Retirement System. |
