SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION SECTION:
FORENSIC SCIENCE INTERNSHIP
The Honolulu Police Department's Scientific Investigation Section (SIS) is excited to offer a two-week (80-hour) internship program that introduces students to the world of modern forensic investigations. Participants will gain exclusive, hands-on experience in SIS's specialty areas, including Forensic Biology, Drug Analysis, Latent Prints, Firearms, Trace Evidence and Crime Scene Response. Guided by experienced laboratory scientists, students will work with industry-standard equipment and learn real-world techniques and procedures used in today's crime laboratories.
Program Duration:
August 1, 2025 (7:45 AM - 4:30 PM) - Orientation
August 4 - 8, 2025 (7:45 AM - 4:30 PM)
August 11 - 14, 2025 (7:45 - 4:30PM)
Objectives:
- To provide students with an understanding of the day-to-day operations of a forensic science laboratory.
- To allow students to apply learned theoretical concepts to practical situations.
- To develop professional skills necessary for a career in forensic science.
- To foster mentorship relationships between interns and experienced forensic scientists.
*The S. I. S. Internship Program is currently offered only during the Summer.
