Police Radio Dispatcher
Job Description
A Police Radio Dispatcher operates a radio transmitter and receiver in a communications control center. They are tasked with dispatching and coordinating police personnel in response to complaints, reports of crime, disturbances, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance.

The starting/probationary position is called Police Radio Dispatcher I (PRD-I).

Here are some of the other duties that are performed by a police dispatcher:
- Maintains accurate records of the status of all police personnel in the field, including motor patrol deployment and their disposition
- Coordinates response of other elements of the department and clears channels for direct broadcast between field units as necessary
- Screens and classifies telephone complaints from the public, elicits and summarizes necessary information, and classifies and codes criminal offenses
- Provides assistance and information to the general public regarding police operations
- Operates computer teleprocessing equipment to input and retrieve data reported in or required by police officers
