The following requirements must be met at the time of application.
Age: 20 years of age or older.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. G.E.D. or H.S. diploma.
License: Valid motor vehicle driver's license. A valid type 3 Hawai‘i driver’s license is required by the date of hire.
Firearms: Must meet Federal and State eligibility requirements to possess firearms.
Disqualifiers include, but are not limited to:
No person who is under indictment for, or has waived indictment for, or has been bound over to the circuit court for, or has been convicted in this State or elsewhere of having committed a felony, or any crime of violence, or an illegal sale of any drug shall own, possess, or control any firearm or ammunition.
No person who has been acquitted of a crime on the grounds of mental disease, disorder, or defect.
No person who is or has been diagnosed as having a significant behavioral, emotional, or mental disorders as defined by the most current diagnostic manual of the American Psychiatric Association or for treatment for organic brain syndromes; shall own, possess, or control any firearm or ammunition therefore, unless the person has been medically documented to be no longer adversely affected by the addiction, abuse, dependence, mental disease, disorder, or defect.
Citizenship: Citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States. Non-citizen with unrestricted employment authorization from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may also apply.
